Exploring our nation! 🗺️✏️ 4th grade students dive into geography, using maps and colors to illustrate their understanding of physical and man-made features. Creativity meets learning as they map out the landscape around them!

Mrs. Singletary’s and Mrs. Shannon’s kindergarten class counted with supplies that were scattered, circular, and in rows. We also sorted our items and discussed how!

Mrs. Godwin’s Math classes had a data day on Tuesday. Groups surveyed their classmates to collect data and then created bar graphs using a scale of 2. They made sure to include a title, labels, the scale, and finally the bars. Lastly, groups created questions that other groups could answer about their collected data.
In Social Studies they began a new unit on geography. Learning cardinal directions was much more fun using play-dough when making a compass rose.

📚✏️ Second graders + teddy grahams = math magic! Miss Barfield's class used snacks to create number bonds and solve missing addend problems. These clever kiddos used teddy graham crackers to bring number bonds to life and create their very own math problems. By manipulating their snacks, they practiced finding missing addends in a hands-on (and tasty!) way.

Ms Smith’s 1st grade class explored different ways to build the number 10 using various combinations. We read the story 10 Flashing Fireflies, and as we went through the story, students moved their “fireflies” into a jar. We compared the number of fireflies inside the jar with those still flying around. The students then used their “fireflies” to complete a chart that said, “When _ fireflies were in the jar, _ fireflies were flying free.” Through this activity, we discovered the numbers are “friends of 10” and can make 10 in many different ways.

Ruffer, the astronaut dog, has had a good time in breakfast line teaching students to Be Respectful by waiting in line patiently and encouraging them to say ‘Thank You’ to our hardworking lunchroom ladies. He also gets pretty excited about Viking football and our new spirit store!
