Mrs. McCain's ELA classes read the story "Spaghetti in a Hotdog Bun" this week and learned that it's okay to be different! To wrap up the week, our third graders enjoyed tasting main character, Lucy's, favorite sandwich - spaghetti in a hotdog (actually hamburger) bun!

This week, Miss Ply's class has been reading the book "Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun" by Maria Dismondy which teaches readers the importance of kindness, the golden rule, and the fact that every person around us is unique in their own way! This story is about Lucy who is being teased by her classmate Ralph simply because she is different. One of the things he teases her about is the fact that she likes spaghetti in a hot dog bun.
Miss Ply's students put Lucy's favorite sandwich to the (taste) test! Students took a vote on whether they thought they would like the sandwich or not and voted again after they tried it themselves.
Mrs. Cooper’s second grade class read the story My Mouth is a Volcano. The main character in the story faces challenges when trying to communicate at school. His words feel like a volcano ready to erupt. It helped teach students the power of self-control and when to respectfully listen to our teachers and friends. After reading, each student used science tools to make a volcano. It was explosive!
📚 Words ignite imagination, but science brings it to life! 🌋
Miss Barfield's class recently dove into the world of "My Mouth is a Volcano," a wonderful book that teaches the importance of not interrupting and using kind words. Our young readers learned that, just like a volcano, sometimes our words can "erupt" if we're not careful!
To bring the story to life, we conducted a fun volcano experiment. As they watched their mini-volcanoes erupt, students drew parallels to the book's message about controlling our impulses and considering others' feelings before we speak.
It was heartwarming to see our students make real-world connections and discuss ways to be more mindful in their conversations. Check out their volcanic creations and the eruption of joy on their faces!
Not only have students in Mrs. Taylor’s first grade class been working on making groups of 10, they have also been learning about the importance of teamwork. Students worked together to complete a sort, where they were given a bag containing cards with incomplete ten frames. They had to work together to identify which cards belonged together to complete the frames and make a group of ten.
Mrs. Niewoonder's first graders reviewed making ten by playing partner matching games. They had 1 minute to find all the matches to make 10. Their favorite variation of the game was beat the teacher--and two groups succeeded!!
Miss Barfield's class combined literature, crafts, and science for an unforgettable learning experience! 📚🎨🔬
Our students read the heartwarming book "My Class is a Family," reinforcing the importance of classroom community. They then created custom name bracelets, adding a personal touch to their learning.
But the excitement didn't stop there! We took the class outside to observe how the color-changing beads on their bracelets reacted to sunlight. It was amazing to see their faces light up as the beads transformed before their eyes!
