A VERY special thank you to Charlotte Country Day School from all of the teachers and students at Dewar Elementary! The families of Charlotte Country Day School in Charlotte, NC, bought books during their book fair to donate to our school. This was part of their hurricane relief program as they reached out to different areas that were impacted by Hurricane Helene. The school was able to donate 447 books to the students and classrooms of Dewar Elementary!! We truly cannot thank them enough for this wonderful blessing. Thank you again Charlotte Country Day School for your generosity, thoughtfulness and kind spirit.

Congratulations to November's DES Teacher and Staff Member of the Month, Mrs. Jessica Taylor and Mrs. Trina Pattullo! Mrs. Taylor's colleagues said, “Mrs. Taylor is a shining star at DES! Always ready with a helping hand or a friendly chat, she is the heart and soul of the first-grade team, supporting all of us to succeed. Her passion for making learning enjoyable is evident in the enthusiasm of her students; they would all agree that she makes every lesson fun and engaging!” Mrs. Trina's colleagues said, “Mrs. Trina is a bright ray of sunshine. Dewar is so blessed to have her here with us. She is eager to do whatever is needed to help others, even when it is not part of her job description. She loves sharing ideas and all of her wonderful resources. She never complains or raises her voice at the students. Her patience is a true example of a loving heart. Thank you, Mrs. Trina, for being such a great example to us all.” This month's winners received gifts from the following CPIE members: Salt and Light Consignments, Lavis Lotus Head Spa and Esthetics, Texas Roadhouse, Red Owl, Chicken Salad Chick, and Detail Genie, Greer's Gifts, and South Georgia Pecan Company.

We had a successful launch to our Women to Warriors initiative! Our 5th grade girls meet once a month to learn from various community members as they speak about the importance of diversity and how we can use our difference to strengthen our community as a whole. In our first meeting we talked about the power of positive self talk as well as encouraging our peers. The girls wrote positive messages to themselves inside of the outline of a person and then took turns writing positive messages to each other on the outside of the picture.
For our second gathering; we had Crystal Pyle, TSgt, USAF come to speak to the girls about her journey to Leadership and how she uses the diversity of her team to accomplish goals. Thank you for sharing with us Crystal Pyle, TSgt! We learned so much and the girls had some very insightful questions.
Before Thanksgiving, for our third gathering, Deputy Bair spoke to the girls about Conflict Resolution and De escalation. The girls preformed skits on how to handle various conflicts they may encounter with their peers. Our girls are learning great things and we are so proud of them! Thank you to each of our guest speakers!

Thank you so much to everyone who supported the book fair! Because of your support, we will be able to provide even more books and activities in the Dewar Media Center. We could not be more grateful to each of you! Thank you!!

Mrs. Rice’s 2nd grade class read the book, Balloons Over Broadway. They read and researched about how Tony Sarg turned his love for puppetry into what we now know as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The students then transformed into engineers and created their own Macy’s Day float. At the end of the day they put on a Dewar Thanksgiving Parade.

While we celebrated our November Vikings of the Month last week, our 4th grade students were on a mission for Top Math (field trip). We wanted them to feel just as special as all of our other Vikings of the Month so we held a make-up McDonalds luncheon today! We even got to serve some of our other students who were absent last week. Congratulations to ALL of our November Vikings of the Month!

4th Grade Family Night!!

4th grade ELA students read paired passages about the history of popcorn. They wrote informational essays using information from the texts, recorded themselves reading their essays in a shared Canva presentation, and left feedback after watching each others videos. 🍿 They ended the project by enjoying a popcorn snack!

Don't forget to order your pictures with Santa through November 29, on the Dewar School Store site under Events! Pictures will be taken on Friday, December 6!

Dewar 2nd graders had a fantastic time exploring the concept of place value! To wrap up their unit, they created amazing place value donut projects. We are incredibly thankful and feel blessed that S & S Services of Lowndes County generously donated delicious donuts for each child to enjoy while crafting their projects. What a sweet way to celebrate their learning! A special thanks to Dunkin' Donuts as well!
