Digital Instructional Resources
Ensuring student safety online begins by vetting digital resources for compliance with Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Before using a digital resource that involves student data, teachers must submit that site for vetting by the technology department, the teaching and learning department, and the student information department. A current list of approved digital resources can be found on the Lowndes County Schools website. Part of the process is to evaluate the resources using the state provided tool: TrustEd Apps Management Suite. On this platform, sites are vetted and scored based on regulatory compliance with GDPR, FERPA, COPPA, approved for children under 13, and an accessibility statement. If a site is determined to be compliant and also is aligned with the Lowndes County Schools Instructional Framework, then it is added to the approved list of resources.
