School Counseling

School counselors 2020

School Counselors help students in a variety of ways. They seek to maximize student success by enhancing social/emotional development, implementing strategies to improve academic achievement, and assisting students in planning for postsecondary education/career selection.

Second Step

Second Steps was implemented in PreK-8 2018-2019 school year.  Second Steps is a Social Emotional Curriculum taught by school counselors helping students gain life skills promoting social and emotional competence and self regulation in environments beyond the school. Lessons help build sensitivity and encourage peer relationships.

A child’s ability to interact positively with others is essential to building self-regulation skills and developing core communication skills.  This curriculum strengthens the ability to interact positively with others, self-regulate behavior and effectively communicate feelings thus having a positive impact on relationships.
